Cultural Research and Intelligence Group (CRAIG)

The West Midlands Cultural Research and Intelligence Group (CRAIG) consists of regional cultural research and policy specialists. We're a forum for sharing the latest regional cultural research and intelligence.

We form part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport Agencies in the West Midlands structure, acting as an informal steering group for the Cultural Observatory. We meet once every three months.

Collaborative projects include monitoring the recession's impact on the cultural sector work. CRAIG members facilitated an economic survey with local cultural organisations. Lauren Amery, Cultural Research Analyst at the Observatory, analysed the results.

Getting involved

We aim to involve representatives of other bodies with an interest in cultural sector research and related issues. Getting involved can be continual or for individual projects. For example:

  • The regional Higher Education sector, currently represented by University of Birmingham and Birmingham City University
  • Representatives from key sub-regional networks and institutions with an interest in cultural sector research and intelligence
  • Representatives from local authorities through the West Midlands Culture and Sport Improvement Network
