Communities in the modern world

Information
Title: Communities in the modern world
Date submitted: 26/03/2010
Status: Not started
Priority: No priority
Description In the modern world people move around much more frequently than they used to. They also tend to travel further afield for work, for leisure pursuits and for education. Families are more likely to be dispersed too. As a result, the importance of geographical communities may be less important than historically.

There is only limited evidence about how people see communities in the modern world. For example, do people still consider that their geographical community is important, or are they more connected to communities centred around work, interests or other factors. This could be particularly important for policy on a variety of issues such as sustainable communities and supporting vulnerable individuals.
