Description Reviews of the literature about the causes of worklessness identify clear links with health issues, particularly around mental health. However, there is only limited evidence about the detail of the relationship between the two issues, and particularly the direction of causality between them. This is true nationally but is a particular issue in the region given the high levels of worklessness here.

The Observatory will review national work being undertaken in this area and determine the need for a regional piece of work.
