Description Many minority ethnic groups have low employment rates. Some studies have been undertaken in particular groups about the barriers that they face in accessing employment. However, there isn’t a consistent picture across all the main ethnic groups, particularly about the different barriers faced by different groups.

In most ethnic groups the employment rate in the West Midlands is lower than the national average, with the gap amongst minority groups greater than amongst white-​British people. This may mean that there are some particular barriers in this region, about which even less is known.
