Patterns of economic and social inclusion in the West Midlands: Full report
Social inclusion indicators
Report
2009-02-03
The analysis presented in this report analyses the differing factors which influence social and economic inclusion in different parts of the West Midlands. It is based on an analysis of 67 different indicators across the 951 most deprived local neighbourhoods in the region. It uses two techniques to simplify the picture - factor analysis to reduce the number of variables and cluster analysis to group together similar areas. The report highlights the inter-relationships between many of the factors which impact on individual's ability to play their full part in economic and social affairs. It also looks at how these issues vary across the region - highlighting differences between Birmingham, the Black Country and North Staffordshire, in particular. The indicators involved in the analysis cover issues such as employment, income, education and skills, health, housing and land use, crime, accessibility and social cohesion.
