How to use InstantAtlas maps

We use InstantAtlas to display some a number of datasets in an interactive map form. We've tried to make the tool as user friendly as possible but we appreciate there may be some questions. Hopefully, we can answer most of those questions here.

The Map

The centre of the screen shows data in map form where you can see the performance of each geographical area. Clicking on the map will highlight that area's performance in the data table, bar chart and time series, so you can assess performance against other geographical areas.

The Data Table

This displays the numbers behind the map. It shows the current data set that is being displayed in the map and charts. Clicking an area in the data table will highlight that area in both the map and the charts.

Above the data table is the Data button (this may also be called Select Indicator). Click this to view options to change the dataset and display the required information.

Time Series Chart

This chart shows the performance of selected geographical areas over the time frame that data is available for. More than one geographical area can be selected and displayed in the time series chart for comparison.

Bar Chart

The bar chart compares all geographical areas for the current time period. Clicking on individual bars in the chart highlights the respective geographical area in the data table and on the map.

Legend

The legend shows the data range that each area falls into. By clicking on 'Legend' the user can change the data ranges.

Navigation options

Use the menu at the top of the screen to go to home page, contact our team of Research Analysts through the enquiries service, or view other datasets available through InstantAtlas.
