Monitoring Local Area Agreements

National Indicator Consultation Workshop

SignpostOn Wednesday 5th December 2007 the Observatory hosted a technical consultation event for Communities and Local Government reviewing the new National Indicator Set.

Representatives from 12 of the region's 14 LAA areas came together with regional partners to give their input to the ongoing consultation about the definitions of the 198 indicators.

There were presentations from Philippa Lynch (CLG), Richard Browne and Tony Bunker (Be Birmingham) and Bert Provan (CLG).

The first session led by Philippa Lynch outlined the consultation that is currently underway and the process leading to the development of the National Indicator Set. The delegates then had the opportunity to pose questions to Philippa. These questions and answers are available in a Q&A sheet (PDF, 65KB).

The delegates then broke into groups to discuss the key issues that they felt needed to be resolved through the consultation process and also to highlight any areas of concern.

Richard and Tony, from Be Birmingham (Birmingham Strategic Partnership) then explained how Birmingham had tackled their LAA and the process and structures that they had put in place as the country's largest LAA.

Finally Bert Provan, Deputy Director of Neighbourhood Renewal Analysis at CLG, explained the work that CLG were undertaking to make data more accessible, more consistent and more robust. He explained the work that is ongoing, including a pilot in the North West, to build a data hub to help collection and exchange of data. He then looked into the future to outline the ideas that CLG have for enhancing this service further.

Full feedback and answers to the Q&A session are available on the downloads page and the event proved a useful opportunity for regional partners to feed directly into the CLG consultation process. You can also use our discussion forum to highlight further issues or discuss the event, the indicator set or broader data and performance monitoring queries with other people in the region.
