20 Impact Investment Locations have been identified in the West Midlands by the Joint Strategy & Investment Board. These are areas in which investment in economic development, regeneration and transport should be concentrated to support regional economic growth. For more information on Impact Investment Locations see the West Midlands' Regional Funding Advice to Government (pdf, 2.64mb)
This research project assesses the potential for job creation and associated demand for skills at 15 of the 20 Impact Investment Locations. The locations selected were deemed to have made the most progress to date.

How the research was carried out
Consultant Reiver 128 were appointed to carry out this research. The work started in December 2009 and was completed in July 2010.
Here's a summary of the research stages carried out for each Impact Investment Location.
Stakeholder engagement
This involved an interview with site lead/manager(s) to identify the size, usage and timing of each element of the Impact Investment Location development.
Skills analysis
This stage identified key sectors in which jobs are likely to be created directly by employers locating on the site and the likely occupational and skills profile.
The analysis is based on the Working Futures forecasting model developed by Cambridge Econometrics and the Warwick Institute for Employment Research.
Draft analysis and report for each site under consideration
This was reviewed with site lead/manager(s) to incorporate their views, which provided a rich source of qualitative information and a ‘reality check’ on the analysis.
Summary reports
A set of summary reports (available to download above) covering each of the 15 locations were produced in collaboration with the Observatory. The reports highlight potential for job creation by sector, occupation, skill level and timeframe.
Overview report

The overview report (pdf, 454kb) summarises the overall impact of all the sites covered in the research in terms of potential job creation by sector, occupation and skill level, a timeline for job creation and analysis by sub-region. Again, this report was produced in collaboration with the Observatory.
